I have recently been dealing with my aging parents and what to do with them when the time comes when they are no longer able to live at their home. My mother is at that point as I write today. If you have aging parents you need to sit down with them today and discuss this matter immediately. The reason I say this is because my mother came very close to death. She was placed on a ventilator for 10 days and none of us expected her to live when they removed the breathing apparatus. Amazingly she is still with us but is having to be relocated to a nearby nursing home facility. She is unable at this point to fill out a Living Will or Power of Attorney. This fact did open my dad’s eyes and we immediately went and had this taken care of for him.

I do not understand the law of the land completely but our hands can be bound when it comes to making decisions for our parents without these documents. If you are an aging person and you haven’t taken care of this business, you need to right now. If you are a child of an aging parent, do not hesitate to talk with them as soon as possible so you will not be placed in the same situation as me and my sibblings.
